Counselors and volunteers from the community are available to assist individuals and families resolve problems by assisting them with:

  1. Welfare and refugee assistance
  2. Child care
  3. Problem solving needed to deal with a given situation

In addition, interpreters are provided to assist members of the Community resolve problems, such as those involved in court procedures, dealing with the police, lawyers and disputes with businesses or other people.

The Seattle Police Department meets monthly with the East African Group. They frequently respond to reports of domestic violence or complaints involving immigrants or refugees from East African countries. The police need volunteers to assist in translating with the people and to help in resolving the situation. SSCW provides volunteers to assist the police where people from the Community are involved and become engaged in providing family services through this channel.
